Track cycling in Prague
Ever looked at a velodrome and thought, "That looks incredible, but I have no idea how to start"? You’re not alone. Track cycling can seem intimidating from the outside, but it is surprisingly accessible, simple, and—above all—addictively fun.
Whether you are a seasoned roadie looking for a new edge or a complete beginner, here is everything you need to know about getting on the planks in Prague.
And if you're worried about safety, rest easy: while the occasional spill happens just like in any other cycling discipline, you’ll never have to worry about ending up under the wheels of a car.
Prague is a unique hub for track cycling, boasting two distinct venues that keep us spinning all year round. The best part? There are no hills on the track.
Motol Velodrome: A covered wooden track perfect for winter training, ensuring the season never ends.
Třebešín Velodrome: An open-air track used for high-intensity summer training and international racing.
Both venues are fully operational and open to everyone from children to the general public, hosting everything from local meetups to world-class international events.
The biggest hurdle usually isn't the skill—it's the gear. A track bike is a specific machine (fixed gear, no brakes), but don't let that stop you.
Through our partnership with TJ Kovo Praha, we can help you source a bike and provide expert advice. We can even arrange a rental for you under very symbolic terms to let you test the waters before you commit.
It doesn't matter if you have a 400W FTP, a racing license, or if you’re just looking for a fun way to spend an afternoon.
Looking for variety? Track cycling is the ultimate way to spice up your cycling routine. It’s easier than it looks.
Looking for the podium? If your goal is to win, be prepared—earning a medal on the track is just as grueling as any mountain climb.
The easiest way is to just show up. Come find us any Wednesday #6MWR, and we’ll talk you through the basics, show you the ropes, and get you sorted with a bike.
Are you ready to turn left?
There is a reason why legends like Mark Cavendish, Bradley Wiggins, Lotte Kopecky, or Filippo Ganna started on the boards. The track forces you to develop a perfect pedal stroke, high-speed bike handling, and tactical awareness that road-only riders often lack. Mastering the fixed gear is exactly what helped these champions dominate the world's biggest road races.
